The City of Barcelona

Bathed by the Mediterranean, Barcelona is located northeast of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the capital of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and a population of over 1,600,000 inhabitants. The city is divided into ten districts: Ciutat Vella, Eixample, Sant Martí, Sant Martí, Les Corts, Sarria-Sant Gervasi, Gràcia, Nou Barris-Horta Guinardó and Sant Andreu.

Its economy is based on the textile, pharmaceutical, automotive, agricultural and livestock (pork products) and tourism.

Outstanding in its cuisine the stew with white beans (which includes the famous sausage), sausage, rice, codfish, stewed beans, crème brûlée, the wines of Priorat and Penedes and excellent champagnes.

The climate of Barcelona is humid, with mild temperatures during the winter and hot during the summer.

The airport of El Prat, is located about 15 km from the city center of Barcelona. Accessed via the motorway C-31 Barcelona-Castelldefels.

The festivity of Our Lady of Mercy is celebrated on September 24, with parades of giants activities and bigheaded, conducting human castles and music festivals.

In the sports section, Barcelona has two football stadiums. These are the Nou Camp Stadium and the Cornella-El Prat (recently opened), where both local teams play like Barcelona and Espanyol respectively.
